Phyllis and her volunteers have been warning against the inherent danger of a constitutional convention for decades. Phyllis’s extensive writings echoed sentiments set forth by former Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren Burger, who wrote to Phyllis in June 1988 that he believed a constitutional convention was a waste of time, that it could not be controlled regardless of any limits set by Congress, and that it would be a free-for-all for special interests groups.

March 27, 2017 was the first hearing in the Nevada Legislature on SJR10 to Rescind all previous applications for Article V Conventions including a BBA. I was asked by the very liberal Democrat Sponsor Senator Segerblom to sit at the table with him and give testimony. The Convention of States deceptively proposes a “limited” convention to “impose fiscal restraints on the federal government and to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.” It sounds reasonable until you realize that the purpose of the entire Constitution was to “limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.” It then becomes clear that the COS proposal will open every portion of the Constitution to structural change.
