Eagle Forum Thanks President Trump for Keeping His Promise

(Alton, IL) Eunie Smith, president of Eagle Forum, the pro-family, conservative organization founded by the late Phyllis Schlafly in 1972, issued the following statement following President Trump’s selection of 10th Circuit Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

Eagle Forum sincerely thanks President Trump for keeping his promise to nominate an exceptionally qualified jurist who has a record of applying the Constitution as the Framers intended, not as it suits his own policy preferences.

We are encouraged that Judge Gorsuch’s textualist judicial philosophy is also informed by an underlying respect for human life. In his book condemning euthanasia and assisted suicide Gorsuch wrote that, “human life is fundamentally and inherently valuable,” and that “the intentional taking of human life by private persons is always wrong.”

Eagle Forum and the thousands of families we represent throughout the country will be praying for Judge Gorsuch and his family. Senate liberals have already attempted the politics of personal destruction against fine, well-qualified nominees like Jeff Sessions and Tom Price, and it hasn’t worked.

President Trump took an extraordinary step in releasing lists of Supreme Court potential nominees as a candidate in order to reassure conservative voters. That was a brilliant move, as exit polls indicate that a large majority of voters cited the Supreme Court as their priority in selecting their candidate. President Trump has kept faith with these voters. We now urge Senate liberals to stop their immature shenanigans and do the same.
