The November Midterm elections are less than 55 days away. In fact, early voting in some states starts in less than 10 days! Republicans and Democrats are racing to the finish line in hopes to maintain or regain a majority in the U.S. House and Senate next year. Both parties are tackling similar issues, but their solutions and rhetoric are wildly different. One thing is certain: the outcome of November’s elections will have a real impact not only on the economy but American families for years to come.
“Affordability” is the buzz word for both parties during this campaign season and rightfully so. The high cost of groceries, gasoline, housing, and other necessities are daily reminders that prices have not dropped enough yet from the Biden era highs. Republicans have already taken action to lower the cost of living over the last two years.
Last year, President Trump signed into law the One Big, Beautiful Bill (OBBB) that contained numerous provisions designed to help families financially. The OBBB includes the “Working Family Tax Cuts” that affect all Americans regardless of age, job, or stage of life. The law boosts the child tax credit and adoption credit, creates a tax credit for those who donate to school choice scholarships, eliminates taxes on tips and overtime, increases the senior citizen tax credit, and removes the “death tax” that penalizes family inheritances. Most importantly, the law preserves the lower tax rates put in place during the first Trump Administration, preventing the largest tax hike in history. Not a single Democrat voted in favor of the One Big Beautiful Bill. These tax cuts saved over $1 trillion, and Republicans are promising more next year.
Democrat solutions are starkly different and more dangerous to our economy in the long-term. For example, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has made childcare “free”, with taxpayers footing the bill for up to $9 billion per year. This isn’t just a New York City idea. Congressmen and Senators have proposed this measure nationwide. Representative Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) introduced the Childcare for Working Families Act (H.R. 4418/S. 2295) last year to give families who make below 85% of their state median income fully subsidized childcare. For example, in Massachusetts, up to 840,000 families making up $90,000 per year would be eligible. If Democrats regain control of the House or Senate, this bill and others like it would pass with few objections.
Childcare wouldn’t be the only big-ticket item. Two years ago, Democrats laid out their economic plan in their party platform. They want to encroach on states’ rights by increasing the minimum wage to $15 per hour for all Americans, a move that would cripple small businesses. They want everyone to receive healthcare from the federal government. This would cost taxpayers up to $35 trillion over ten years, push doctors out of the profession, and fund abortions and transgender surgeries on children. Their “environmental justice” initiatives bring a hammer down on businesses by forcing them to adhere to unnecessary and burdensome climate standards. House Democrat Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has been campaigning on “shared prosperity” meaning more taxpayer funded handouts and more income redistribution from the makers to the takers. What will be left of our paychecks if Democrats are successful in enacting their plans?
Crime rates have decreased across the nation since 2025. According to FBI statistics, 2024-2025 marked the largest year-to-year drop in violent crime rates in history and they have continued to decline. Part of this success can be contributed to secure borders and removal of violent illegal aliens. In May, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) celebrated a full year of no illegal aliens being released into the United States from the Southern border and historically low border crossings. The DHS website Arrested: Worst of the Worst features over 3,000 criminal aliens arrested and deported back to their home country.
Democrats believe our borders should be open and that illegal immigrants who cheat the system should receive the same benefits as Americans. They have voted against every commonsense border security bill and refused to support language that would prevent illegal aliens from receive taxpayer funded benefits. Some Democratic Socialists flat out hate our country. Current New York congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier has openly espoused those beliefs. She has called America a “f-ing disgrace,” advocated to “abolish the border,” and said in a social media post, “I forgot to get napkins, so I just wiped my hands on the American flag behind me.” She has won Mayor Mamdani’s endorsement.
This year, Republicans in Congress fully funded ICE and border patrol agents. This will allow them to get paid to do their jobs through 2029 so that the border can remain secure. They also voted to increase penalties for illegal border crossers and permanently expanded the offenses of aliens that would mandate ICE detention. Putting Democrats in power would undo all this success. Families deserve to feel safe in their own communities and should not be forced to fund illegal aliens.
This week, Republicans are holding a midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, to showcase GOP candidates and encourage Americans to get out and vote. On the first night, President Trump, others in his administration, and members of Congress rallied attendees by contrasting the Republican agenda with that of the Democrats.
Eagle Forum-endorsed Congressman Brandon Gill (R-TX) framed the intentions of the convention by saying:
We are hosting this midterm convention… so you can hear exactly what’s at stake for our country this November.This election is very clear. It’s the mainstream versus the extreme because there is a political movement right now that doesn’t believe that America is or ever was great.
Then he sharply dissected the policies and rhetoric of the Democrat party. He highlighted current candidates such as New York’s Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez, Michigan’s Abdul El-Sayed, and Texas’s James Talerico that have made anti-American statements. He rightly asked how those with such disdain for our country can be trusted to govern it. He stated:
The fundamental question of this election cycle is if America can even exist.
Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL), who is running for Governor of Florida, placed the affordability crisis solely on Democrat policies. He emphasized the number of Americans who are fleeing blue states like California and New York to live in red states like Florida, Texas, and Tennessee. The policies that Democrats in those states are enacting keep families from thriving. He stated:
Florida is a powerhouse because we have no state income tax. When an entrepreneur wants to build in Florida, we don’t crush them with red tape and bureaucratic nonsense. You see, that’s what makes life affordable.
Then he cautioned against voting for Democrats who will push these same policies nationwide by asking the question, “Do you let the arsonist become the firefighter?”
Clearly, this isn’t your parents’ Democrat party anymore. However, one lone Democrat Senator is drawing a line in the sand by condemning at least some of the extremism. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) joined the convention virtually to openly reject socialism, endorse Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA), and vow to continue to work with President Trump on policies that are best for Pennsylvanians. As politics grow increasingly polarizing, it is refreshing to see members of the opposite party reach across the aisle and vow to work together to help the American people.
