Phyllis and her volunteers have been warning against the inherent danger of a constitutional convention for decades. Phyllis’s extensive writings echoed sentiments set forth by former Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren Burger, who wrote to Phyllis in June 1988 that he believed a constitutional convention was a waste of time, that it could not be controlled regardless of any limits set by Congress, and that it would be a free-for-all for special interests groups.

March 27, 2017 was the first hearing in the Nevada Legislature on SJR10 to Rescind all previous applications for Article V Conventions including a BBA. I was asked by the very liberal Democrat Sponsor Senator Segerblom to sit at the table with him and give testimony. The Convention of States deceptively proposes a “limited” convention to “impose fiscal restraints on the federal government and to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.” It sounds reasonable until you realize that the purpose of the entire Constitution was to “limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.” It then becomes clear that the COS proposal will open every portion of the Constitution to structural change.

It looks like all sorts of people are joining the game of rewriting parts of the U.S. Constitution. It started with state legislators who apparently had time on their hands, and now it’s even extended to U.S. Supreme Court Justices.

Vote NO on SCR 1016. SCR 1016 calls for an Article V Constitutional Convention of the States for proposing multiple amendments. A convention cannot be limited. Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens in his new book “Six Amendments” wants to amend the U.S. Constitution and gut the Second Amendment taking away the individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

Article V of the U.S. Constitution provides two methods by which the nation’s founding charter may be amended. The first, Amendment by Congressional Proposal, requires the adoption of an amendment or amendments by a two-thirds vote in both houses of Congress; the second, generally referred to as the “Article V Convention” method, authorizes the states to apply to Congress for a convention for proposing an amendment or amendments. If the legislatures of two-thirds of the states, 34 at present, do, in fact, apply for a convention, Congress is obliged to convene one. Both methods then require the approval of three-fourths of the states, 38 at present, in order to become part of the Constitution.

Ask your Alaska Senators to vote NO on SJR 18, a bill to call for an Article V Constitutional Convention of the States (Con Con) to amend the Constitution. It puts our Constitution and our Constitutional rights including the Right to Keep and Bear Arms at Risk. Your calls are extremely important. When Senators get just 10 calls they think that everybody is against it.
