If a huge border crisis wasn’t bad enough, liberal lawmakers are pushing lame duck legislation to loosen our immigration laws. Behind closed doors, members of the United States House and Senate are negotiating bills to eliminate limits on legal immigration and provide a massive amnesty measure in the final days of the 117th Congress.

House Democrats have yet again been hard at work crafting disingenuous legislation meant to “help” our immigration system. However, the Homeland Security Improvement Act (H.R. 2203) jeopardizes both the Trump administration’s agenda and the nation’s safety. House Republicans have rightly nick-named it the “Open Borders Act of 2019.”

The Senate has been a key part in backing the President’s promise on funding the border wall. Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has refused to entertain any vote in the Senate on which the President did not agree. This includes the House budget that Democrats crafted to strip border wall funding and reinstate taxpayer funding of abortion services overseas.

Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA) is moving forward with his discharge petition (H. Res. 774) and just needs 5 more signatures to bring it to the floor. Republicans are scrambling to come up with a plan to oppose this measure. This is terrible news, but we still have time to stop it from moving forward.

Congress has seen its fair share of shady deals, but the most recent is on the topic of immigration. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA) has introduced a resolution (H. Res. 774) to force several votes on immigration-related bills that take a 218 vote threshold to pass. Rep. Denham already has the full support of all Democrats in the House. If he were to gain the support of 41 Republicans, the vote to proceed to the resolution will not need a committee vote or approval from Leadership.

As Congress is drafting a massive spending bill, news outlets are reporting that the President has offered to cut a deal on the illegal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) plans to introduce legislation that will grant amnesty to 1.8 million illegal immigrants. This is a deal being worked out between both parties, but panders to liberals by offering no long-term solutions to America’s immigration problems.

A third immigration proposal is soon to be on the table. On Monday, the White House will release the President’s new proposal on immigration reform that he is sure will win over both parties. He has guaranteed a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) fix as well as border security measures. However, he will allow younger immigrants to “morph into” citizenship in 10-12 years. This overreaching amnesty is what he condemned in the “Gang of Eight” amnesty proposal.

After discussions between the White House and Congressional Leadership of both parties, Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) released language on his Securing America’s Future Act. This bill, unfortunately, continues the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program, however, it grants all of President Trump’s demands for immigration.

Republican Senate leadership is ready to throw in the towel on fighting President Obama’s executive amnesty. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants to yank the House-passed bill that defunds amnesty while fully funding the Department of Homeland Security and replace it with a “clean” bill that omits the defunding language.
