Update – Congress Surrenders to Obama’s Lawlessness
Congress has failed to defund President Obama’s executive amnesty. After Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) caved to Harry Reid and passed a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) without blocking money for amnesty, House Republican leadership let the “clean” DHS bill come up for a floor vote. It passed, 257-167, with all Democrats joined by 75 Republicans in support of the measure. You can find the roll call here.

Republican Senate leadership is ready to throw in the towel on fighting President Obama’s executive amnesty. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants to yank the House-passed bill that defunds amnesty while fully funding the Department of Homeland Security and replace it with a “clean” bill that omits the defunding language. He is offering a stand-alone anti-amnesty bill, but the current plan is to vote on it after they pass the DHS funding. This means the vote will be meaningless because it will not be attached to something that must pass Congress and be signed by the president.
Caving to President Obama and Senate Democrats shows that Senate Republicans are not willing to use their majority to advance conservative priorities. It will signal to the president that he can continue to take Congress’s constitutional power to make laws without any consequences. Our immigration laws will be meaningless.
Call Senate Republican leaders NOW: Tell them that the Senate must vote to defund President Obama’s amnesty before they vote on a clean DHS appropriations bill.
