Washington, D.C.: After months of secret negotiations to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the education reauthorization to replace the failed No Child Left Behind, President Obama has signed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), favored by the education bureaucracy but opposed by many conservatives. For weeks, Speaker John Boehner and other congressional leaders have been negotiating a two-year budget deal and debt-limit increase with President Obama. Senate Vote on Planned Parenthood – please call!
Your calls to Congress worked! Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced yesterday that the Senate will have a cloture vote Thursday on a Continuing Resolution (CR) that funds the government through December 11th and includes H.R. 3134, passed by the House of Representatives last Friday, stopping Planned Parenthood funding for one year and redirecting funds to Federally Qualified Health Centers. These health centers not only provide more comprehensive health services, but they also outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics across the nation 20 to 1. By redirecting federal funding away from Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion provider, Congress is continuing to fund women’s health care through centers that give more options and more services to women.
