Eagle's tree

The Chief Eagle was battered
As her time drew near;
Some vultures had gathered
Who magnified fear.

Their axe was at the root
Of the tree where she’d nested;
Her lifetime of service
Was greatly contested.

Her flock was concerned
As to how to protect her, and
The tree she had nurtured so well
As a powerful home for Eagles to dwell.

More vultures joined forces to uproot the tree;
Dead wood they would cut, smiling with glee;
With no tree for the Eagles they would surrender;
The vultures assumed no one would defend her.

But the tree’s roots were deep as they grew;
Her tree was much stronger than some ever knew;
The Eagles would guard, protect, and uphold
The structure that gave them a place to be bold.

Six Eagle hens rose up
And faced the attack;
The youngest lead bravely,
And never looked back.

They flew in formation,
And prayed for a plan;
When words came as weapons
Causing a jam.

“Gang of Six” was the name
They were called with intent to defame;
That ruffled some feathers,
But it never could shame.

Battle lines were blurred;
The flock was confused;
Divide and destroy
Was the tactic the enemy used.

Through lies and false blasts,
The half dozen was steadfast;
Near despair their will did not diminish,
They encouraged each other to fight to the finish.

The six endured through six long years,
Determined to stand strong and persevere;
Then the verdict was given in timely perfection
To celebrate fifty years in a jubilee of succession.

The tree is now again growing its branches;
The Eaglets are bold and willing to take chances;
This strong tree will not just survive, but will thrive
Because the key is that God does provide.

Dear Eagles, never grow weary,
Rise up on your wings!
The Lord has prepared you
To do many good things.
