Who put the “I” in Holiday,
That stole the “Y” of Holy,
Has the country gone astray,
And focused on things too lowly?
Holy things require reverence,
As we show respect, and honor,
To ideas that have high preference,
Commanding deep thoughts to ponder.
Like, why men defend their country,
By their own free will and device.
They sacrifice much comfort,
Even risking their own life.
Commemorations be holy!
Wise men sought for independence,
They decided to fight for glory,
And approached God with repentance.
We can’t waver from their resolve,
That sets our country way apart.
No one here will be absolved,
If they do not do their part.
Founders knew that God provides,
This plan was not just for themselves.
They put the selfish “I” aside,
And together they rebelled.
The day became a holy one,
Brave men signed a document.
They would defend it with their gun,
And justify their argument.
So, take this fun-filled holiday,
Make it holy by proclamation.
Speak words that loudly say,
Praise God we still have this free Nation!
