FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
It has always been Eagle Forum’s position that life is sacred from conception, that a baby is a person, and that there should be no exceptions to his or her protection from abortion except to save the life of both mother and child. Modern science has confirmed our position – notably with ultrasounds which enable us to see into the womb.
Eagle Forum is thrilled to see states passing legislation in an attempt to get the Supreme Court to revisit its infamous abortion decision which has resulted in some 60 million babies dead in the United States since 1973.
For example, on May 15, 2019, Alabama passed the Human Life Protection Act, the strongest abortion law in the nation. It was almost immediately enjoined by the ACLU and others. It holds that the performance of an abortion is a Class A felony, with a minimum sentence of ten years prison. The only exceptions are serious health risks to the mother such as death, major physical and suicide risks, which are carefully stipulated. The law affirms that an unborn child is a person “in utero, regardless of viability” as was already defined in Alabama’s homicide law. Eagle Forum of Alabama championed this bill from its inception. Executive Director Becky Gerritson continues to advocate for all innocent life. See her speech and others at the Students for Life Rally in Montgomery where victims of rape and incest gave powerful witness to the need for prolife bills without exceptions.
Most recently, Louisiana passed a Heartbeat Bill. We thank Eagle Forum Louisiana President Sandy McDade for her effective advocacy. Following is her report.
Eunie Smith, President
After taking the lead in many Pro-Life Bills since the late 1970s, Eagle Forum of Louisiana along with the help of several smaller and newer groups used its leadership and expertise to pass the Heartbeat bill. This same bill has been passed in several other states and could end the uncivilized practice of killing unborn children.

In a news opportunity on the steps of the Louisiana Capitol the brave author of this bill, John Milkovich, explained that “The fetal Heartbeat Bill prohibits abortions after a heartbeat is medically detected.”
In the Roe v Wade decision the Supreme Court said that once we are able to prove that the fetus is a human then the issue should be revisited. Heartbeats are now detected as early as 8 weeks We are counting on the Supreme Court to keep its word.
Democrat Governor Edwards has agreed to sign the legislation.
