Tell the Senate to Defund Planned Parenthood

UPDATE: Senate fails to defund Planned Parenthood 53-46

July 30, 2015

Call Congress Today – Defund Planned Parenthood!

Americans have been shocked in recent weeks by a series of videos showing executives of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, discussing the sale of body parts from aborted babies. The abortionists were caught on film as they casually described altering abortion procedures to preserve lucrative organs and then haggled over prices.

Many Americans were shocked that Planned Parenthood engages in such despicable behavior. What’s even more shocking is how much support it gets from taxpayers. Last year, the organization received over $500 million from the federal government, comprising 41% of its budget.

The federal government shouldn’t send one more cent to Planned Parenthood! Legislation has been introduced in both houses of Congress to achieve this goal. In the House of Representatives, Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) has sponsored two bills: H.R. 3134 would place a moratorium on federal funds to Planned Parenthood for one year while the government investigates it, and H.R. 3197 would end federal subsidies for any organization that provides abortion. In the Senate, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) has put forward S. 1881, which would defund Planned Parenthood.

The House has left for the August recess, so please encourage your representative to cosponsor Rep. Black’s bills and to call for a vote in September. The Senate will likely vote on Sen. Ernst’s bill next week, so please call or email your Senators and encourage them to support it.
