Eagle Forum Applauds Passage of Sage’s Law
in Virginia House of Delegates
in Virginia House of Delegates
Encourages State Senate to Affirm Parents’ Right to Know
Statement of Eagle Forum President and Virginia resident Kristen A. Ullman on passage of Sage’s Law (HB 2432) by the Virginia House of Delegates:
Sage’s Law was drafted in response to the case of a 14-year-old Virginia girl who became a victim of sex trafficking after her high school hid the girl’s change in gender identity from her mother. She was raped in a male group home after the state removed her to supposedly protect her from her parent’s ‘misgendering’ despite their claims they would have used her newly adopted pronouns and name. The bill also clarifies that ‘misgendering’ is not ‘child abuse’.
“There is no love quite like the love of a parent for a child, no bond as strong, and no support so essential for children’s wellbeing than that of a parent. Parents in no way cede that love and support to school personnel when they enroll their children in public schools. Passage of Sage’s Law ensures that schools cannot stand in between parents and children, especially children who may be questioning the most fundamental aspect of their beings. Today, the Virginia House of Delegates recognized and supported the rights of parents to be notified and included in any plan dealing with a child’s gender incongruence.
We encourage all members of the Virginia Senate to quickly take up this bill, pass it and send it to Governor Youngkin for his signature. We implore you to act quickly to protect Virginia’s children and the important bond between parent and child.”
