Eagle Forum, the conservative grassroots organization founded by Phyllis Schlafly in 1972, commends President Trump for taking bold, yet balanced action through his Executive Order on Safe Policing for Safe Communities.
“Eagle Forum joined in signing a coalition letter to President Trump and Congress urging lawmakers to uphold the rule of law and to support just and accountable law enforcement to keep all communities safe,” said Eagle Forum President Colleen Holcomb. “We believe President Trump’s Executive Order is a step in the right direction.”
In response to rioting, looting and radical calls to defund police, more than 100 conservative leaders throughout the country declared, “We all agree that we can continue to better our police departments, along with every area of our government, but we reject the radical notion that law enforcement, or this great nation, is inherently and systemically racist or beyond repair. We reject the radical notion that defunding police departments will increase public safety.”
The Executive Order promotes best practices to ensure the safety of officers and community members, prohibits excessive use of force and strengthens constitutional protections against overreach, promotes the development of stronger relationships between communities and police, institutes accountability measures to report and diminish abuse, and provides support and training and assistance from social workers for law enforcement dealing with those who are addicted, mentally ill and homeless.
“This Executive Order is a stark contrast to the dangerous and reactionary knee-jerk responses we are seeing from liberal officials throughout the country that are fueling violence and division,” said Holcomb. “President Trump’s Executive Order reflects the kind of leadership we need to promote positive change and unity.”
