Eagle Forum applauds the House Republican Leadership and the House Freedom Caucus for rejecting the dark-of-night deal passed by the Senate at 3 a.m. on Friday to strip ICE and CPB from the DHS appropriations bill. A short-term continuing resolution to fund the entire Department is a preferable step for maintaining strong borders and respecting the Congressional process for federal funding.
“Requiring any federal employees, whether they are law enforcement agents or civilian support staff, to work for months without pay is not only un-American, but inhumane,” said Kris Ullman, President of Eagle Forum.
“Creating a ‘new appropriations’ bill, in addition to the 12 bills tied to specific federal departments, sets a dangerous precedent. Once this is done the first time, it will be repeated. The Democrats’ radical agenda favors criminal illegal aliens and open borders. They do not want to fund border control or immigration enforcement at all. Congress cannot let funding for these vital public safety programs to lapse. The Senate bill that stripped funding for ICE and CBP is an insult to the American people,” Ullman continued.
“We believe Majority Whip Emmers said it best on Fox Business earlier today, ‘What the Senate did was frankly not right. We are going to make sure that the border is funded. . . . President Trump‘s number one promise was that the border was going to be secure. He’s accomplished, with Republican leadership, incredible things with the southern border. . . [W]e are not going to allow these radical, anarchist, Marxist, socialist Democrats to literally create an open border situation again as we experienced under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.’”
“We thank Speaker Johnson, the entire GOP House Leadership, and the principled members of the House Freedom Caucus for rejecting a ‘deal’ that harms national security, violates accepted procedures, and rewards those who seek to punish federal employees by withholding pay for simply doing their jobs. The Democrats seek to reopen our borders and restrict the ability to deport criminal illegal aliens. Conservatives want no part of such a plan. The Department of Homeland Security needs to be funded yesterday. We encourage the quick passage of a bill to restore funding to the entire DHS for 60 days,” Ullman concluded.
Eagle Forum was founded by Phyllis Schlafly, a dynamic and charismatic leader who inspired countless women and men to participate in the process of self-government and public policy-making so that America will continue to be a land of individual liberty, with respect for the nuclear family, public and private virtue, and private enterprise. For nearly fifty years, Eagle Forum’s network of state organizations has led the charge to mobilize the grassroots to defend the founding principles of the United States.
