Barrett Terrifies Senate Dems

Amy Coney BarrettThe Senate confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s appointment to the Supreme Court have lacked no liberal theatrics and dramatics. As Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham said at the start of the hearings, “This is probably not about persuading each other. All Republicans will vote yes, all Democrats will vote no.”

This is a sad truth. Supreme Court nominations have increasingly become more and more partisan. Just two years ago, Associate Justice to the Supreme Court Brett Kavanaugh was vilified by the Left. So far, the Democratic Senators and mainstream media haven’t gone quite as crazy as they did in the Kavanaugh hearings, but they still are attempting to get Barrett on record for how she would rule in certain cases and find ways to slam her personally.

They’ve primarily focused their questioning around the Affordable Care Act and whether or not Judge Barrett’s appointment jeopardizes the law. As Ranking Member Senator Diane Feinstein said:

“You’ve been critical of Chief Justice Roberts for his 5-4 opinion upholding the law, stating that Roberts ‘pushed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) beyond its plausible meaning to save the statute.’ This well could mean that if Judge Barrett is confirmed, Americans stand to lose the benefits that the ACA provides…”

There’s no doubt that this was the Democrats attempt to get Barrett on record saying that she is against the ACA and if given the opportunity, would overturn it. Barrett didn’t fall for the bait. As the Wall Street Journal reported:

‘”I am not hostile to the ACA,” Barrett replied, noting that the current case before the court deals with an entirely different matter altogether: severability, which examines whether a law can stand if part of it is struck down.

“The issue in the case is this doctrine of severability, and that’s not something that I have ever talked about with respect to the Affordable Care Act,” she said. “Honestly, I haven’t written anything about severability that I know of at all.”’

Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) noted that the Democrat’s obsession with the potential policy ramifications of Judge Barrett’s decisions turns “judges and justices into policy advocates and into politicians.” The Democrats want a liberal activist Justice to get their dirty work done. They simply cannot accomplish it through both the House and Senate.

But, Barrett never committed herself to how she would rule and the liberals found another point to attack. A couple of times Judge Barrett used the term “sexual preference” to describe a person’s sexual orientation and gender identity. But apparently this term is “offensive.” Senator Mazie Horono (D-HI) slammed Barrett claiming sexual preference is “an offensive and outdated term. It is used by anti-LGBTQ activists to suggest that sexual orientation is a choice.”

MSNBC’s Kyle Griffin tweeted:

“‘Sexual preference,’ a term used by Justice Barrett, is offensive and outdated. The term implies sexuality is a choice. It is not. News organizations should not repeat Justice Barrett’s words without providing that important context.”

Then, Miriam-Webster jumped on the bandwagon. Over Tuesday night, they added “offensive” to the term “sexual preference.” As the Washington Free Beacon’s Charles Fain Lehman tweeted:

We shouldn’t be surprised with the amount of coordination the Democrats use to smear their enemies and push forward their radical agenda. It happened to Kavanaugh and no doubt they’ll attempt it on Judge Barrett. We can only hope that the truth prevails, and the American people realize the lack of respect the Democrats give them.
