Sex Roles Make Sense

Phyllis Schlafly said, “Most women just don’t want to be liberated from home, husband, family, and children,” as she started a movement to counter pernicious feminism.

William F. Buckley Jr. and Phyllis Schlafly

Happy 100th to one of the Remarkable Women in American History

Phyllis Schlafly was, in the words of the eminent conservative journalist M. Stanton Evans, a woman with “several careers–housewife, mother, media personality, political leader, and constant nemesis of women’s lib.” She was, like National Review’s founder William F. Buckley Jr., a force of nature who tirelessly worked to advance the conservative movement–she wrote 27 books, thousands of articles and op-eds, constantly traveled and lectured, and founded and ran one most successful conservative advocacy organizations, the Eagle Forum.

Celebrating the Phyllis Schlafly Centennial

Let’s start with communism. The reason my mother, Phyllis Schlafly, was motivated to be active in politics was because of the threat of communism. Long before the culture wars or the second wave of feminism, communism posed an existential threat to the freedoms of the United States.

The Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution does not allow for any exceptions, even common sense exceptions that recognize that only women get pregnant and have babies or the difference between an X and Y chromosome. ERA demands complete sex equality, and in Section Two, instructs the federal government, not the states, to enforce that “equality.”

ERA does not allow for any exceptions for privacy and would force the sex-integration of prisons, athletic competitions, schools, and showers. Nobody benefits if male and female prisons are combined; in fact, female prisoners would be at a significant privacy and security disadvantage. Currently, most women’s shelters and transitional housing that help abused women do not allow men inside for the protection and security of women — but those shelters would be illegal under ERA

PHYLLIS SCHLAFLY REPORTS

The Awesome Power of Family Courts

The month of June when we observe Father’s Day is a good time to review some of the injustices committed against fathers by family courts. Family courts routinely deprive divorced fathers not only of their own children, but even many constitutional rights.

The NEA Spells Out Its Policies

The nation’s largest teachers union, the National Education Association (NEA), attracted 9,000 delegates to its annual convention in Washington, DC over the Fourth of July weekend. Delegates sported buttons with provocative slogans such as “Gay marriage causes Global Warming only because we are so hot”, “Hate is not a family value,” “The ‘Christian Right’ is neither,” and “Gay Rights are civil rights.”

ERA Enforced by the United Nations?

Having failed in their effort to persuade Americans to put the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) into the U.S. Constitution, despite spending tens of millions of dollars and enjoying the support of Big Media, three Presidents, and dozens of prominent politicians of both parties, the feminists are now trying to give us an even more dangerous ERA through ratification of a UN Treaty on Women enforced by busybody bureaucrats from foreign countries.

The Feminists Continue Their War Against Men

When the feminist movement burst onto the American social scene in the 1970s, the rallying cry was “liberation.” The feminists demanded liberation from the role of the housewife and mother who lived in what Betty Friedan famously labeled a “comfortable concentration camp.”

Time to Defund Feminist Pork — the Hate-Men Law

If Congress is looking for a way to return to principles of limited government and reduced federal spending, or to help finance the expenses of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita without raising taxes, a good place to start would be to reject the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) sponsored by Senator Joe Biden (D-DE).

High Stakes in Judicial Supremacy

The histrionics of the liberals about the impending nomination to fill the Supreme Court vacancy look overwrought, but they are heartfelt. The liberals know they’ve lost the legislative and executive branches of government, and their only hope of achieving their goals is from supremacist judges who claim the authority to legislate the law of the land.

ERA and Abortion

The Equal Rights Amendment AGAIN?

For anyone who might have entertained the thought long, long ago that the Equal Rights Amendment was about women’s rights, the Senate’s hearing this week should prove it was not. The ERA is being revisited because of the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade. Radical leftists will not stop in their efforts to institutionalize abortion rights, and they see the ERA as perfect cover.

Reviving ERA Cheats Our Constitution

Amending our U.S. Constitution is a big deal and should not be done lightly. The amending process requires a super-majority — not a simple majority — of both houses of Congress, plus a super-majority of the individual states to agree on the same language.

Reviving the Equal Rights Amendment to Keep Abortion Legal

Many Americans think of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as an issue from another era in American history.  And so it is – a 22-word amendment to the Constitution first proposed in 1972, fiercely debated, but failing of ratification by the deadlines Congress established, then extended by majority vote, for it.

Because ERA Harms Our Unborn Children

The Equal Rights Amendment is a poorly worded proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would restrict all laws and practices that make any distinctions based on gender or sex. While we believe in equal opportunity for men and women, we also recognize that there are situations where we must make distinctions based on our biological differences. It is foolish to deny biology in pursuit of “equality.” If the ERA ever becomes part of our constitution, men and women could not be treated differently, even if the different treatment is due to physical differences such as pregnancy.
