A recent cartoon showed several children as one child is blowing the candles on a birthday cake. The caption read, “Don’t overthink it — any wish that’s not about reversing climate change is pretty pointless anyhow.”
The climate alarmists have scared the children.
I remember watching a movie in school when I was 10 years old that showed an overpopulated world drowning in trash. Paul Erhlich’s dire prediction in his book, “Population Bomb”, had enormous influence in the 1970s, but he was totally wrong. Today, the prediction is that the world’s population will decline because the birth rate has dramatically fallen across the globe. Are parents afraid to welcome children into an unsettled world? And are children afraid to optimistically embrace life because the world might suddenly change and end in 2030?
Children should never be taught that their life will not have meaning.
Here is what I teach:
- A change in climate will not end civilization. Humans (and animals and plants) have adapted to change and will continue to adapt to any change in climate.
- Fossil fuels are an efficient form of energy; we should not trade efficient energy for inefficient and expensive energy. Wind and solar cost more energy to produce than what they deliver.
- Yes, you can eat the food you want to eat and travel to the places you want to travel! Limiting your diet or transportation will not have any effect on the global climate.
- The “clean” electricity for cars and houses is produced by fossil fuels.
- Wind and solar energy cannot fly jets or build buildings or produce air-conditioning.
- The purpose of the climate alarmists is to raise your taxes and restrict your life.
Green-niks are dominating the popular culture with scare tactics, but we should offer hope and optimism that children will thrive in the United States.
