Thirty-five short years ago,
My life changed for the better,
The Lord gave me a show,
He sent me a brief letter.
I was submerged in my business,
And caring for the family.
I had very little interest,
In far off things, I could not see.
Yet a patient, faithful lady,
Had been “working” on me.
I was warned that she was scary,
But that trait, I never did see.
She had shared the gospel message,
I didn’t take it as a joke.
She would quote a Bible passage,
But to me there was no hope.
My countenance was solemn,
There was little joy in my heart.
How could I dare approach Him,
Seems I’d felt guilty from the start.
Bad things had been happening,
Mistakes that I could not explain.
With all this I was grappling,
Dealing with those who complain.
Then The Lord had mercy on me,
As I drove up to do my chores.
On that glorious Palm Sunday,
I would get to meet The Lord.
God ordered the highway traffic,
In perfect timing and design.
Then He sent me a graphic,
Just, seven letters aligned.
First, decals of Christ’s fish symbol,
Were plastered on a passing car.
I just thought yeah, that’s so simple,
Are all Christians so bizarre?
Then a license tag that followed,
Was on a car from Kansas.
Its written letters were hallowed,
And my heart was burned to ashes.
“R U SAVED” is what it asked.
What kind of joke was this?
The message was not masked,
My faint heart could not resist.
I drove swiftly to my office,
Called that wacky woman up.
There was no answer from her,
Yet in a moment she showed up.
Oh, did you know I called?
No, she was just driving by.
She saw my car and paused,
To come in and just say, “Hi.”
I prayed the sinner’s prayer that day,
Now salvation is my story.
Jesus took all my sin away,
God’s “text” brought me to His Glory.
