January 22, 2018

Today is January 22, the 45th anniversary of the infamous Supreme Court decision called Roe v Wade that has resulted in almost 60 million innocent babies having lost their lives in these United States since 1973.

Although much progress has been made in advancing the sanctity of human life, the abortion rate is still one baby every 35 seconds.  Looking at my home state of Alabama that means one kindergarten classroom full of children per day is being aborted. Approximately 20% of pregnancies nationwide end in abortion.  The toll that abortion takes on the mother in adverse health consequences and inevitable remorse cannot be measured.

To put it in the perspective of just one state, my home state of Alabama has placed new and stricter restrictions on abortions, as is indicated by a feature article from the paper with the largest distribution, The Alabama Baptist.  Despite a drop in numbers and a reduction in abortion clinics, abortion is still a common procedure.  Also discussed are adoption and foster care alternatives.

Other states have made similar progress, but there is much more work to be done.  Every child is a gift from God and is “fearfully and wonderfully made” as the song linked here attests.

Let’s all renew our commitment to pray and act that by God’s grace this holocaust will end.
