Allen Long: 256-394-1143
National Eagle Forum is pleased to announce its endorsement of Dr. Allen Long for the office of the State Board of Education, District 7 in Alabama.
“In light of Allen Long’s opinions on a wide range of social, fiscal, and educational issues, we are pleased to announce our endorsement of his candidacy for the State Board of Education. Dr. Long’s positions of support for issues such as school choice, local control of education, parental rights, and traditional American history curriculum, and his opposition to Common Core and the entire ‘woke’ agenda currently infiltrating our public school systems, we feel confident that the voters would be well served to elect this candidate to public office.”
Allen Long is a physician, farmer, and cattleman. Allen grew up in Florence and earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of North Alabama in 1975. He then attended the University of South Alabama from 1975-1979 where he earned his Doctor of Medicine. After interning at the Caraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham from 1979-1980, he completed his Residency at the University of Tennessee Department of Otolaryngology in Memphis from 1980-1983.
Allen’s professional specialty is Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat) and he became board certified in 1984. He has practiced medicine in the Shoals area for over 30 years.
From 1994-2006, Dr. Long served on the Board of Trustees for the University of North Alabama from 1994-2006 and on the Board of Trustees for Shoals Christian School from 2001-2016. This service provided him with experience that will prove valuable to the State Board of Education.
“I am truly honored to earn the endorsement of the conservative National Eagle Forum. Ever since I started following politics, I have appreciated the work of Eagle Forum both in the state of Alabama and nationwide”, said Dr. Long. He went on to say, “If we don’t get a handle on public education then I fear for our future. Eagle Forum has been fighting for parental rights in education and support of school choice. Both of these issues are near and dear to me, and I look forward to entering the political ring and fighting alongside them.”
According to recently filed fundraising reports, Allen Long has raised over $100,000 while his two Primary opponents combined have raised just $6,600.
Eagle Forum President Kris Ullman commented, “For a candidate to earn our support they must pass a 2-part test: the candidate must be principled and viable. Dr. Long is both, as evidenced by his answers to our extensive issues survey and by his recent fundraising success. We wish Allen Long continued success in this race and look forward to working alongside him for the good of Alabama’s children when he is elected.”
The Primary election takes place March 5th with a runoff to follow four weeks later, if necessary. No Democrat filed to run for this office, so the winner of the Republican Primary will be the next board member from District 7.
