Supply Chain

The big problem with paid family leave is who does the work when the employee stops coming to work for several months? Do other employees cover the work or is the job ignored? After all, the open job is not filled in anticipation that the worker will return. The situation reminds me of “The Family Circus” cartoon where all the children chant “Not Me” when milk is spilled.

Right now, the United States is in a supply chain crisis, which is about transportation of goods into and across our nation. We have a Department of Transportation. We have a Cabinet Secretary in charge of Transportation, who was appointed and confirmed to the position earlier this year. Where is he?

Buttigieg’s office told West Wing Playbook that the secretary has actually been on paid leave since mid-August to spend time with his husband, Chasten, and their two newborn babies.

Meanwhile, the ports are full of unloaded container ships, the markets are out of toilet paper, and the Grinch stole the Christmas toys. Hooray for government-paid family leave!
