Socialism values the collective over the rights of the individual. Under socialist or communist government, every person belongs to the state and no one has any individual liberties. However, even the smartest socialist rulers are incapable of forecasting the weather and even less able to forecast the economy.
Case in point is Communist China. Two generations ago, the Chinese government believed the “smart scientists” who said that a population “bomb” would overwhelm Earth. Since the Communists in China control the bodies of their people, the rulers brutally forced millions of women into abortions and sterilization. China’s “one-child” policy also resulted in the infanticide of newborn females, which led to a large imbalance in their population: too many males and not enough females.
Whoops, now, 43 years later, the Chinese tyrants suddenly realize that they do not have enough people in their country. Headline this week: “China Will Let Families Have Three Children”. So nice and forward-thinking that the Communist tyrants will “let” families reproduce! In another generation, the Communists will surely change course again when their new demographic plan fails to achieve the results the dictators want.
The socialist desire to quash freedom is not only in China, but, unfortunately, can be seen here in the land of the free. Headline this week: “Cities, States Wage Battle Over Banning Gas in Homes”. Starting with Berkeley, California, blue cities have been banning natural gas lines in new home construction. Some red states have pushed back on the effort by banning the bans of fossil fuels.
This time, the “smart scientists” say that fossil fuels are destroying our climate and the only solution is for government to prevent us from heating our homes or cooking our food with the most efficient and cheapest source of energy. Surely the ban on charcoal grills will be next.
The plan-and-control economies are run by “smart” people who really believe that they know better than you how to manage your life. Wait another twenty years and these prevailing winds will be blowing in the opposite direction.
