For years, leaders in the pro-life movement, like Eagle Forum, actively sought passage of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Its need stems from a 2002 law, the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, which states that “every infant member of the species homo sapiens who is born alive at any state of development” is a “person” for all purposes under the law. However, this law failed to provide clarity on the response babies born alive from botched abortions receive.

Make the Post Office Great Again

This past June Louis DeJoy started as the new Postmaster General. He quickly instituted cost-saving reforms and changes to the Nation’s postal system. These included streamlining transportation policies, removing some mail-processing equipment, and reducing overtime. As DeJoy said in a memo outlining the changes, the transportation changes alone could help save the USPS about $200 million.

In response to the death of George Floyd and the riots rippling through the country, this past Monday many Democratic members of the House and Senate knelt in the Capitol’s Emancipation Hall for 8 minutes and 48 seconds; the amount of time Floyd was held before he was killed. They were seen wearing Kente cloths, which drew some criticism.

This Tuesday, May 12th, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions held a hearing entitled, “COVID-19: Safely Getting Back to Work and Back to School.” Like the rest of the country conducting business over the web, the Senate held the hearing in a manner to comply with social distancing.
