House Democrats are back to their old tricks again of pretending to pass impactful immigration law even though their bills have nothing to do with the crisis at hand. They are set to vote on two bills.
The first bill, the No BAN Act (H.R. 1333) is last year’s leftovers. House Speaker Pelosi passed this bill in 2020 in order to slap down former President Trump’s measures to keep dangerous immigrants from entering our borders. Pelosi wants to restrict future Presidents from banning travel. This would jeopardize our national security. Pelosi is blatantly ignoring the Supreme Court’s decision in favor of these restrictions in an effort to virtue signal and draw attention away from the real immigration crisis at the southern border.
The second bill, the Access to Counsel Act (H.R. 1573) would grant immigrants the opportunity to consult with an attorney, which would severely jam up the immigration process. We are already seeing hordes of people waiting in long lines and sleeping under bridges at the border. A lawyer for every illegal would make the situation worse. Officers currently have the freedom to conduct extensive vetting into suspicious individuals seeking residency in the United States. Involving counsel will hinder the jobs of these officers and make the process less efficient. The only beneficiaries of this bill are immigration lawyers who will be lining their pockets with cash.
