Common Core: Victory in Oklahoma!
For several years, Eagle Forum leaders across the nation have led the fight against the massive federal takeover of our schools known as Common Core. In Oklahoma, several dedicated organizations successfully worked together to legislatively remove the initiative by passing HB3399, a measure repealing Common Core with the intention of replacing it with state-driven standards.
After HB3399 was signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin, a baseless legal challenge was filed by pro-Common Core members of the Oklahoma Board of Education, asserting that the Legislature violated the State Board of Education’s constitutional authority to supervise public schools. Eagle Forum Education and Legal Defense Fund filed an amicus brief in this case defending the legal authority of the Oklahoma State Legislature, and on July 15th, the state Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of HB3399. In an 8-1 decision, the court ruled that the legislature’s decision to repeal was constitutional. Now that all three branches of government have weighed in, Common Core is finally dead in Oklahoma, and the state can focus on devising new standards.
As the regimes of Barack Obama, Bill Gates, and other big-government cronies have been silenced in Oklahoma, we hope you are encouraged by this tremendous victory and are inspired to continue the fight to ensure your state and community has the final say in educating your children.
