Phyllis Schlafly and the Eagle Forum activists have been effective advocates on the right side of so many important historic battles. This track record of sound judgment and effectiveness has attracted donors because a donation to Eagle Forum is a sound investment in the preservation of American exceptionalism. Eagle Forum’s principles have never been influenced by financial contributions. The Eagle Forum Board of Directors is fully committed to the exact same core principles that have guided Eagle Forum for more than 40 years.
Phyllis and her volunteers have been warning against the inherent danger of a constitutional convention for decades. Phyllis’s extensive writings echoed sentiments set forth by former Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren Burger, who wrote to Phyllis in June 1988 that he believed a constitutional convention was a waste of time, that it could not be controlled regardless of any limits set by Congress, and that it would be a free-for-all for special interests groups.
As was the case with her opposition to the Equal Rights Amendment, the “kingmaker” establishment she decried in A Choice Not an Echo, and so many other destructive policies and entities, Phyllis’ opposition to a Constitutional Convention arose out of and was fueled by her unwavering love for America and her exceptional political discernment that a runaway convention is highly likely. Eagle Forum’s opposition to ConCon has never been and could never be influenced by any financial contribution. Accusations on the part of Article V proponents to the contrary are simply an indication that they are bereft of valid arguments for their position.
