This week held multiple victories for conservatives as Congress used the Congressional Review Act to reject harmful Obama Administration regulations. Eagle Forum is particularly pleased with the repeal of regulations dealing with Planned Parenthood and Education:
Restoring States Rights to Defund Planned Parenthood.
In an exciting turn of events on Thursday, the Senate voted to overturn a regulation prohibiting states from defunding Planned Parenthood. Because two Republican Senators, Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine), joined Democrats in voting against the Resolution, the victory required Vice President Pence to cast a tie-breaking vote, and Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson to request special permission from his doctor to return to Washington to cast his vote, as he is recovering from back surgery. The Resolution is headed to the White House for President Trump’s signature. This will mark a first step toward fulfilling Trump’s campaign promise to defund Planned Parenthood.
Ending Federal Control over Education
Earlier this week, Congress rejected and President Trump signed the repeal of two Obama Administration regulations measuring school performance and teacher training. This is a step toward fulfilling the campaign promise to end federal control over education in favor of local control.
Executive Orders on Energy Independence and Trade
Further working to fulfill campaign promises, on Wednesday President Trump issued an Executive Order that repeals crippling environmental regulations that harmed American jobs and energy production; and on Friday, a week before his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Trump signed an Executive Order designed to combat foreign countries’ trade abuses and to eliminate the U.S. trade deficit.
While there is much work left to be done in each of these areas, this progress is greatly encouraging.
President Trump is under tremendous fire from liberals who are furious that he is making good on his campaign promises. Click here to thank him and to encourage him to continue this progress and, in particular, to keep working to defund Planned Parenthood and to end Common Core and return local control over education!
