Pro-Life Victory – Pain-Capable Bill Passes the House!

#THEYFEELPAINThe Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36) passed the House on Tuesday by a 237-189 vote with two Republicans voting against it and three Democrats voting for it.  This bill bans abortions after 20 weeks gestation when the unborn baby can feel pain.  Many Congressmen gave heartfelt speeches on the floor leading up to the vote.  Some shared the story of Micah Pickering, a healthy five-year-old boy who was born at 22 weeks.

Contact your Congressman about his/her vote on the Pain-Capable Bill.

The next step is to get a vote in the Senate. Eagle Forum will aid in these efforts toward another pro-life victory.

E-Verify is Essential

On the immigration front, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) has introduced the Legal Workforce Act (H.R. 3711). This bill requires all businesses to use an electronic eligibility check for new hires called E-Verify. The E-Verify system reviews the citizenship status of individuals which would replace the outdated I-9 system.

Although this method is simple, it protects individuals across the nation. Employers are protected because they no longer have to determine whether certain forms of identification are fake. They no longer have to worry about being accused of discrimination when asking one’s citizenship status.

Language in this bill also protects people from identity theft. It allows any person to lock their social security number so that no one else can attempt to use it to get a job.  If a social security number shows multiple unusual uses, the Department of Homeland Security will lock it and contact that individual.  Parents will also have the ability to do the same for their children.

Eagle Forum supports these efforts to reduce the number of illegal immigrants coming into the United State. These efforts are necessary to protect American families.
