Capitol Hill Report: HHS Cancels Obama’s Failed Sex Ed

HHS Cancels Obama’s Failed Sex Ed

Sex EducationThis month, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has decided to pull $213.6 million in teen pregnancy prevention programs and research from more than 80 institutions. This money was in the form of five-year grants. These programs included those that handed out contraception and taught children how to "explore their sexuality." The left, of course, is furious over this!

Organizations, like Ascend, have fought to expose the lies behind the Obama administration's Teen Pregnancy Prevention program (TPP). An HHS report showed that more than 80% of students who participated in this program ended up worse or no better than those who did not participate. As many as 40% of teens felt pressured to have sex after participating in this kind of comprehensive sex education. This is a program that insists it is "evidence-based."

In a time where unwanted pregnancies and abortions are too frequent, proven programs are needed, just like the Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) programs. These curriculums teach students a holistic approach and how to prioritize waiting. They use the same models as the under-aged smoking and drinking models that emphasize any amount is not healthy.

As TPP funding is slowly being zeroed out, SRA is gaining speed. This week, $20 million towards SRA was sent to a House Appropriations subcommittee to be marked-up. Eagle Forum encourages more funding for programs like these that make our children and families healthy and whole.

Eunie Smith signed a coalition letter on behalf of Eagle Forum thanking President Trump for his support of this effort.

No Vote on Healthcare… yet

HealthcareThe healthcare repeal and replace plan that Republicans have wanted for years has become more contentious than originally thought.  With Republican Senators speaking out against the mediocre plan and one that is out for medical reasons, the vote has been quashed again. Many ideas have been proposed this week including a vote to only repeal Obamacare, allowing Democrats in on discussions, and forcing a vote next week to have defecting Republicans on record.  There seems to be a new plan every day.

Eagle Forum would like to see Obamacare overturned and replaced with a plan that gives families more choices in their
healthcare. We will continue to keep you informed throughout this fight.
