The Incredible Disappearing Border Fence, 12-19-07

Do you know the story of the Incredible Disappearing Border Fence? It's an object lesson in gesture politics and homeland insecurity. It's a tale of hollow rhetoric, meaningless legislation and bipartisan betrayal. And in the run-up to the Iowa caucuses, it's a helpful learning tool as you assess the promises of immigration enforcement converts now running for president.

Christian right scatters support in GOP

"The theme of the endorsements of both Giuliani and McCain seem to be less about conservative beliefs and more about who can beat Hillary," said Jessica Echard, executive director of Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum. "For Republicans to use that criterion is to hand over the primary process to the Democratic Party, rather than to the grass roots."

MEXICAN CONSULATE DEAL DOGS HUCKABEE CAMPAIGN

Critics charge he established 'magnet' for illegals financed by citizens, U.S. businesses

A lingering controversy over the role former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee played in establishing a Mexican consulate office in Little Rock financed by taxpayers and local businesses continues to follow the Republican presidential candidate's campaign, even as he enjoys a surge in polls.

Critics in Arkansas contend Huckabee worked with some of the state's most prominent and politically powerful businesses to draw illegal immigrants to the state to accept low-paying jobs.

Phyllis Schlafly comments on Huckabee's lack of conservatism

Phyllis Schlafly, president of the national Eagle Forum, is even more blunt. "He [Huckabee] destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party a shambles," she says. "Yet some of the same evangelicals who sold us on George W. Bush as a 'compassionate conservative' are now trying to sell us on Mike Huckabee."

GOP 'values voters' seek consensus

VIEWS DIFFER ON LEADING CANDIDATES

WASHINGTON - Since 2000, the social-conservative coalition has known this time would come: a 2008 presidential race without the sitting vice president as the Republican's standard bearer.

Yet in the past seven years, the evangelical Christians, abortion foes and traditional-family advocates in the coalition failed to develop or find a consensus candidate to represent their views.

So beginning today, the best-known Christian conservative leaders will meet here through the weekend to hear the GOP presidential hopefuls - none of whom they really approve. Newsday, 10/19/2007

Crowd cheers as Tancredo blasts illegal -- and legal -- immigration in U.S.

Frontenac — Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., asserted Friday that his anti-immigration message, which brought a crowd here to its feet, is also dragging down his Republican bid for the White House.

Why? "Money," or rather, lack of it, replied Tancredo, as he mingled with the audience of activists with Eagle Forum, a social conservative group holding a national meeting this weekend at the Frontenac Hilton. STLtoday.com, 9-21-07

'Unseen world' dominates GOP presidential debate

God invoked constantly, 'invisible' candidates who failed to show still get tough questions

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – With "invisible" candidates who failed to show up getting grilled with questions, hundreds of empty seats, not a single mainstream television network on hand, and the name of God invoked countless times, the "unseen world" clearly dominated last night's Republican presidential debate in South Florida.

High-profile contenders Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson all chose not to participate, though each had an empty podium with his name displayed on stage to emphasize his absence. WorldNetDaily.com, September 18, 2007

MEDIA ADVISORY, Sept. 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- The 2008 Election promises to be the most critical election of our lifetime as the morals of our nation hang in the balance. Sadly, very few Christians know the positions taken by the candidates on abortion, hate crimes, pornography, same-sex marriage, the fairness doctrine, religious freedom, national sovereignty, issuance of national ID cards, and dozens of other issues. Oftentimes, values voters are left out of the arena and often must choose between "the lesser of two evils". ChristianNewsWire.com, 9-11-07

Missouri Senator Claire Mccaskill Disinvited To Speak At A Catholic School Graduation

St. Joseph’s Academy, a Catholic high school in St. Louis, MO, rescinded its invitation to Sen. McCaskill, whose daughter is in the graduating class, to speak at this year’s commencement. A Peek into Obama's Radical Church

Obama attends Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Illinois Eagle Fran Eaton, who has studied up on Trinity's teachings, found that Trinity encourages its members to "pledge allegiance to all black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System." "I would feel uncomfortable with a church that used the word 'white' instead of 'black' when it talked about these things," said Fran, who writes for the blog Illinois Review. Fran was quoted by the Associated Press on 2-19-07.
