Phyllis Schlafly Was Right

Following the 1997 re-make of the movie Titanic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, an amusing T-shirt began showing up about town. “THE SHIP SANK,” it read. “GET OVER IT.”

One could say the same for the feminist movement.

Would the ERA enshrine a right to abortion in the Constitution?

Read an article giving a brief history of the ERA, its many flaws, and why the pro-life movement should continue to oppose the ERA by Dr. Jack C. Willke, former president of the National Right to Life Committee for ten years and an internationally renowned expert on abortion and human sexuality for the last two decades. Life Issues Connector, October 2007.

Conservative leader speaks at UM

Conservative movement leader and author Phyllis Schlafly spoke about the incompatible ideologies of conservatism and feminism at the University of Massachusetts on Wednesday night.

"I know that women in other countries are very much treated as oppressed, but in the United States, it's very different. Women have always been well treated," said Schlafly during her lecture about the "great debate." DailyCollegian.com, 10/5/07

Why feminists don't speak for me

By Ashley Herzog
Tuesday, May 29, 2007

During my three years as a columnist for my college newspaper, I’ve resisted frequent requests that I explain my opposition to feminism. Apparently, a lot of people are shocked to discover a female college student who does not spend her days singing the praises of the National Organization for Women. Feminists fight for my rights, my readers tell me – so why am I constantly criticizing them?

Equal Rights Amendment sinks in legislative tide

TALLAHASSEE - Thirty-five years after the women's rights movement reached a fever pitch with a constitutional amendment to guarantee women equal protection under the law, the Florida House won't give the notion the time of day.

Literally.

What are the Feminists Smoking?

(Note: Heroin is Afghanistan’s chief crop.) ERA was introduced in Congress with that great defender of women’s rights, Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA), as Senate sponsor, and Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) as House sponsor. In introducing ERA, she said: “Women in Afghanistan now have more constitutional protection than American women do.” Detroit Free Press, 3-31-07.

'Equal rights' for women: wrong then, wrong now

ERA Enforced by the United Nations?

Having failed in their effort to persuade Americans to put the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) into the U.S. Constitution, despite spending tens of millions of dollars and enjoying the support of Big Media, three Presidents, and dozens of prominent politicians of both parties, the feminists are now trying to give us an even more dangerous ERA through ratification of a UN Treaty on Women enforced by busybody bureaucrats from foreign countries. This treaty has the pretentious label of United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Signed by Jimmy Carter in 1980, and repeatedly promoted by Bill and Hillary Clinton, the U.S. Senate has wisely never ratified it. March Phyllis Schlafly Report

Might ERA Rise Again to Fail Again?

By Paul M. Weyrich

They are back, just when you thought it was safe. I mean the Feminazi crowd. And guess what they have in store for you? Why, they intend to re-introduce the Equal Rights Amendment in both Houses of Congress. The original fight should have been over in 1977 but then Congress gave the ladies (please forgive that term in this context) another several years to complete ratification. So you thought the fight was over by 1982? No, not at all. This time the authors of the ERA assure us that they will have no time limit for ratification. And there you have it: ERA forever. At 82, Schlafly still a strong voice of conservatism

CLAYTON, Mo. - The matriarch of the conservative movement is showing no signs of slowing down.

At 82, Phyllis Schlafly is still speaking out against abortion and illegal immigration, still fighting the Equal Rights Amendment, still a thorn in the side of not only Democrats but of Republicans she sees as leaning too far to the left.

Long Odds for Equal Rights Amendment

Feminist Recants

Eva Herman, Germany’s Top News Anchorwoman, denounces feminists’ claims in her book The Eva-Principle: Towards a New Femininity. Herman, who regrets her three divorces and condemns abortion, highlights in a forthcoming book that a career-oriented life is not satisfying. “Let’s just say it loud,” Herman wrote. “We women have overburdened ourselves — we allowed ourselves to be too easily seduced by career opportunities.” Lifesite.net, 3-20-07.

Push under way to pass Equal Rights Amendment

WASHINGTON — Federal and state lawmakers have launched a new drive to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, reviving a feminist goal that faltered a quarter-century ago when the measure did not gain approval by three-quarters of state legislatures. Washington Post, March 27, 2007

Digging Up the Dead-and-Buried ERA

Sen. Kennedy (D-MA), Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), and Ellie Smeal, President of the Feminist Majority have announced plans to re-introduce the ERA in the 110th Congress.

The Equal Rights Amendment was buried in 1982 by the Supreme Court in (NOW v. Idaho, 459 U.S. 809, 1982). Even after an unconstitutional time extension, women's libbers never could muster enough support to overcome honest criticism of ERA. The last state to ratify was in 1977, over 30 years ago. Five states rescinded ratification and nine states voted against it on statewide referendums.

Among many arguments against the ERA is--straight from Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg own book--that the ERA will take away Social Security rights from wives and widows! That's one of the many ways that ERA hurts women.
