Community College In-State Tuition Decree for NC Illegal Aliens opposed by ALIPA, 11-28-07

The Raleigh based national organization ALIPAC, which was credited with helping to defeat in-state tuition for illegals in NC (2005), is taking aim at the administration of Governor Mike Easley (D-NC) for the recent decree that illegal aliens will now be allowed in all community colleges. The Easley administration is known nationally for giving hundreds of thousands of licenses to illegal aliens, an issue that NY Governor Spitzer was pummeled for even considering.

NC Community College Attorney, David Sullivan who issued the order, falsely claims that this move will not cost NC taxpayers because the illegal aliens will be charged out of state tuition. Unknown to most North Carolinians, provisions were secretly placed into law years ago that qualifies illegal aliens for in-state tuition for community colleges in NC.

How Much Is That Degree Really Worth?

Do you know any young people with college degrees working in restaurants, retail stores, or somewhere else for which their degree is worthless? Do they owe tens of thousands of dollars in student loans? There are lots of them out there. Perhaps they are reevaluating the worth of a college education. I’m not talking about people who want to be engineers, nurses, biologists, or something else in the hard sciences. I’m talking about some of the so-called “soft sciences” like Women’s Studies or Art History, or some other useless course of study. Only people with huge trust funds should pursue these majors. A High Cost for Denying the Cross

The removal of the Christian cross from Wren Chapel by the College of William and Mary’s President Gene Nichol has taken a huge toll on the school. Not only did the school lose a $12 million planned donation, but William and Mary’s undergraduate applications have increased only 1% over last year and the endowment growth rate is down from 12% to 2%. “The school sustained serious damage to alumni relations, fundraising and reputation under the current Administration and is in serious danger of falling further in the rankings,” according to William and Mary alumnus Lance Kyle. A local independent newspaper has suggested to the college’s Board of Visitors not to renew President Gene Nichol’s contract. Worldnetdaily.com", 4- 21- 07.

What Colleges Teach -- and Don't Teach

Education Secretary Margaret Spellings says that the Federal Government needs some accountability for the billions of dollars the taxpayers pour into university education. That's right, we do; but her plan, to set up a national database to track students plus a system of testing like No Child Left Behind, is not the solution. April Phyllis Schlafly Report
