'Transportation linking the United States, Mexico and Canada is key to the future'

"Transportation linking the United States, Mexico and Canada is key to the future of NAFTA," Eduardo Aspero, president of the Mexican Intermodal Association, told a recent luncheon sponsored by the Free Trade Alliance San Antonio.

Outsourcing U.S. Passport Production

The Government Printing Office (GPO) has outsourced the manufacturing of e-passports claiming that no U.S. companies makes necessary parts. Next, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) antenna are inserted, and then the blank covers are shipped to the U.S. for binding. GPO Inspector General J. Anthony Ogden has warned the agency that there are “significant deficiencies with the manufacturing of blank passports, security of components, and the internal controls for the process.” Washingtontimes.com, 3-26-08.

Justices Rule Against Bush on Death Penalty Case, 3-25-08

WASHINGTON — In a death-penalty case that has become an international issue, the Supreme Court declared on Tuesday that President Bush had no power to tell the State of Texas to reopen the case of a Mexican who has been condemned for murder and rape.

By 6 to 3, the court ruled that the president went too far in 2005, when he decreed that the states had to abide by a 2004 decision by the World Court. That decision found that several dozen Mexican citizens who had been sentenced to death in the United States had not been given the assistance from Mexican diplomats that they were entitled to receive under an international treaty.

In ancient Greek mythology, the Sirens were beautiful sea-maidens, known for chanting sweet melodies to lure hapless sailors into dangerous waters, only to face their demise amongst the jagged rocks. Judge Dismisses Suit Against Pentagon's Vaccination Policy

An attorney for six Defense Department employees said yesterday that they will appeal a federal judge's dismissal of their lawsuit challenging the Pentagon's policy of compulsory anthrax vaccinations for certain troops.

The employees had argued that, as military personnel, they should not be forced to take the vaccine because there is no scientific proof that it is effective for humans, said Mark Zaid, their attorney. The class-action lawsuit had asked the court to block the Pentagon from inoculating the plaintiffs and to rule that the vaccine was improperly licensed by the Food and Drug Administration.
