Senate Blocks Immigration Bill

Jun 28 12:18 PM US/Eastern
By CHARLES BABINGTON
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate drove a stake Thursday through President Bush's plan to legalize millions of unlawful immigrants, likely postponing major action on immigration until after the 2008 elections.

The bill's supporters fell 14 votes short of the 60 needed to limit debate and clear the way for final passage of the legislation, which critics assailed as offering amnesty to illegal immigrants. The vote was 46 to 53 in favor of limiting the debate.

Senate Immigration Reform Bill Takes Step Toward the Grave

Thursday, June 28, 2007
By Major Garrett and Trish Turner at FoxNews.com

WASHINGTON — The fragile immigration reform bill crafted in the Senate faces sudden death Thursday when a second vote is scheduled to shut down a filibuster.

If supporters don't get the 60 votes they need to end debate, then the bill is dead since the Senate schedule does not allow any more time to revive the legislation.

THE GAME IS NOT OVER!

Tell Your Senators to vote NO on cloture on Thursday!!

On Tuesday afternoon, the Senate voted to revive the Kyl-Kennedy amnesty bill (S. 1639) and bring it back to the floor by a vote of 64-35 (Roll Call 228). Twenty-one Senators switched their votes from the previous cloture vote, held on June 7, which failed 45-50 (Roll Call 206). The "Traitorous 21" can no longer claim they oppose amnesty. Today they voted to bring it back from the dead. The only recourse they have is to vote against the second cloture motion (to end debate), which will take place Thursday.

Right seeks next wave of leaders

Washington Times
By Ralph Z.
6-21-07

Conservatives are looking to revitalize their movement by trying to heal divisions in their coalition and finding younger leaders as the 2008 elections approach.

"We want to rebuild a conservative movement independent of the Republican Party and of George W. Bush — and to emphasize that it is a third force, not a third party," said Phyllis Schlafly, 82, founder of the conservative Eagle Forum.

ALERT: LEAVE THE AMNESTY IN THE GRAVE!

Reasons to Oppose Resurrecting the Amnesty Bill

  1. This bill has already failed 3 cloture votes (Roll Call votes 203, 204, 206)
  2. No Senator, to our knowledge, has reported receiving more calls or constituent contacts supporting the bill than those opposing it.
  3. This bill has circumvented the legislative process by being negotiated behind closed doors, stifling debate, and setting up a rigged amendment process with a predetermined outcome.
  4. No one—conservative or liberal—wants this bill. Conservatives oppose it across the board and now the AFL-CIO is against the bill, along with several Hispanic interest groups—Hispanic Federation and League of United Latin American Citizens (Washington Times, 6/21/07).

Call your Senators and tell them to vote NO on cloture and leave the amnesty bill in its grave! Tell them Eagle Forum will be scoring this vote! A vote in favor of cloture will be scored as a vote for amnesty!

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives this morning voted to withhold federal emergency services funding for "sanctuary cities" that protect illegal immigrants.

Anti-illegal immigration champion Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., sponsored the measure, which he says would apply to cities such as Denver and Boulder. He was elated by its passage, which stunned critics and supporters alike.

AMNESTY BILL RISES FROM THE DEAD!

Tell Your Senators to vote NO on proceeding to the amnesty bill!!

Just a few days after President Bush met with Republican Senators in a closed door meeting on Capitol Hill, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell announced a deal to bring the Kyl-Kennedy amnesty bill back from the dead.

The Senate will vote this week on several procedural motions, including the “motion to proceed,” which determines if the Senate will bring back the amnesty bill for a vote. All Senators should vote NO on any attempt to resurrect the amnesty bill. Any vote to bring the bill back will be considered as a vote for amnesty!

As a part of the deal to bring the bill back up, Senate leaders agreed to a set of amendments to be considered. If the amendment does cut to the heart of the bill and attempt to improve it, they will defeat it. As Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) said, “the process is rigged.”

AMNESTY BILL IS COMING BACK!

Tell Your Senators to Oppose the Kyl-Kennedy Amnesty . . . period!!

Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson, both Georgia Republicans, have asked President Bush to send a request to Congress for an emergency spending bill to fund enforcement mechanisms. Simply appropriating money is not enough.

We need enforcement of our current immigration laws for a prolonged period of time before we accept any next steps in the process.

Appropriating funding does not equal the will to fine employers, stop illegal aliens at the border, and immediately locate and deport all alien absconders. The remainder of President Bush’s term should be focused on ending the “unacceptable status quo” by enforcing our current laws.

Your calls are desperately needed!
Don’t give up—we can win this!

President Bush, the open borders lobby, and political elites want you to get tired and quit! They want to be able to say that “calls have died down” or “opposition is quieting.” Don’t let that be true!

Senators Unmoved by Bush Bid to Save Immigration Bill

By Jonathan Weisman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, June 13, 2007; Page A03

In a rare visit to Capitol Hill, President Bush pressed Republican senators yesterday to resurrect the compromise overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, but many of the senators instead demanded that his administration first show a more determined commitment to border security.

Independent Newspaper in Philadelphia Interviews Executive Director Jessica Echard on Immigration

The Evening Bulletin:

"I am not surprised by Bush, as this has been a priority for the president since January 2004," stated Jessica Echard, executive director of the conservative Eagle Forum.

"This is a heart issue for the president, and he sees his legacy hanging on the outcome of this debate," Echard added.

Echoing Echard's sentiments, Marcus Epstein, executive director for The American Cause, added that he was "disappointed" in the president's decision to revive his dying bill, adding, "It is clear that (Bush) truly believes immigration is his legacy, but it is a legacy that could destroy the Republican Party."

Both conservative activists believe that the president will not be able to win this fight and the political implications will not be determined by Bush's last-ditch attempt at a legacy, but rather on how Republican lawmakers react to pressures from the White House, big business, the Catholic Church, and other major institutions pushing for the Kennedy-McCain-Bush bill.

"It has taken a long time for conservatives to take a stand on this issue, and the political consequences will depend on how the GOP decides to tackle this issue," stated Epstein. "If the GOP becomes the party that stands up against amnesty, they will do well."

Resisting the pressures from the White House, though, may be tough for many GOP senators.

"The president does not like defeat, especially from the grassroots of his party," asserted Echard. The grassroots activist noted the political marriage between the president and the conservative movement has long been on the rocks, and if the president moves forward on this amnesty proposal, there may be grounds for divorce.
"Because the president is on his way out he no longer feels an allegiance to conservatives," stated Echard.

Noting Bush was not cut from the same conservative cloth as GOP icons Ronald Reagan or Barry Goldwater, Echard pointed out that "President Bush did not come from the conservative movement. He was not conservative on spending, education, and in this case, immigration."

"The president wasn't with us from the beginning and clearly the honeymoon is over," added Echard.

After a brief victory last Thursday, conservatives are now gearing up to make sure the Senate does not backtrack and revive this immigration bill.

In an alert issued yesterday, the Eagle Forum made their discontent with the president clear.

"Everyone got the message that this was a bad bill, except President Bush," stated the Eagle Forum alert. "In fact, it seems that the entire Bush administration is committed to ignoring the voice of the American people."

Now Republican senators have to decide whether they will follow an outgoing president or listen to the will of the people.

Are an international super highway and a North American Union on the horizon? A proposed multi-modal transportation system could leave Oklahoma stuck in the middle

BY BRIAN ERVIN

It no doubt seemed like any other day at the state Capitol recently while an apparently unremarkable exchange took place within a fourth-floor conference room over a seemingly innocuous piece of legislation. When passers-by glanced through the glass walls at the suit-and-tie-clad lawmakers and lobbyists deliberating over pie charts and policies, they likely didn't distinguish the event as anything other than the business-as-usual palavers that go on every day beneath the vaulted dome of Oklahoma's statehouse. After all, the same scene repeats itself day after day in that very conference room and others like it, usually with many of the same players.

Fence Protects Bush; Why Not Arizona?

President Bush’s meeting with the G-8 in Hamburg, Germany is protected by a “welded-mesh fence, topped with barbed wire and video cameras,” which “begins in the water and wends its way 12 kilometers through the countryside till it ends back in the water, further down the beach.” In October, Congress ordered the construction of a 700-mile fence on the U.S. southern border, but only 12 miles have been built.

Missouri loss limits live on

By Tim Barker
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
06/10/2007

One of the last vestiges of Missouri's original gambling laws has survived to live another year.

And soon, it may be more important than ever as Missouri's casinos face increased competition from neighboring states.

The $500 loss limit — the one unique aspect of Missouri gambling — was threatened during the recent legislative session, but survived with the help of maneuvering by anti-gambling lawmakers.

BIG VICTORY FOR GRASSROOTS!

Amnesty “Deal” Dies in the Senate, Victory for Grassroots Americans!

Washington, D.C.—Eagle Forum, a leading pro-family organization founded by Phyllis Schlafly, praises the tireless efforts of the American people in voicing their opposition to and successfully defeating S. 1348, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007, better known as the Kyl-Kennedy amnesty bill. On June 7, after two weeks of debate, the Senate defeated cloture on the “grand bargain,” which was crafted behind closed doors by a handful of Senators and skipped the committee process.

“It became obvious that the longer the Senate debated the so-called comprehensive immigration bill, the more the grassroots opposition increased,” said Eagle Forum president Phyllis Schlafly.

“The United States Senate finally listened to the overwhelming opposition to this amnesty bill,” said Eagle Forum Executive Director Jessica Echard. “With calls running hundreds to one opposed, there was no question that we don’t want new laws. We simply want our immigration laws, which already exist, enforced.”

Eagle Forum organized a coalition of outside groups to oppose the bill, similar to the coalition used to successfully defeat the Harriet Miers nomination in 2005.

“This vote sends the message that the American people can still call the shots on how they are governed. The power of the White House, Big Business, cultural and religious elites was not enough to drown out the overwhelming public opposition to this bill. What a great day for grassroots America!” Echard stated.

Immigration Bill in Doubt After Vote

WASHINGTON (AP) - A fragile compromise that would legalize millions of unlawful immigrants risks coming unraveled after the Senate voted early Thursday to place a five-year limit on a program meant to provide U.S. employers with 200,000 temporary foreign workers annually.

The 49-48 vote came two weeks after the Senate, also by a one-vote margin, rejected the same amendment by Sen. Byron Dorgan. The North Dakota Democrat says immigrants take many jobs Americans could fill.

Hundreds rally in Hazleton for immigration reform

HAZLETON, PA -- Several hundred people gathered outside Hazleton City Hall on Sunday in support of Mayor Lou Barletta, the city's Illegal Immigration relief Act and national immigration reform.

The crowd cheered speakers who praised Barletta for proposing the city's immigration ordinance, which would penalize landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and businesses that hire them. The measure is on hold due to a legal challenge by Hispanic groups and individuals.

Barletta was one of the final speakers and was greeting by rousing applause from the crowd.
Barletta called the Comprehensive Immigration Act, soon to be considered by the Senate a "bad piece of legislation."

"In far too many cases, that means our local and national security will rely on the honesty of criminals and terrorists," he said.

Barletta spoke about the strain he says illegals have caused in healthcare, employment and school.

Among the speakers at the rally was Joey Vento, owner of Geno's Steaks, whose Philadelphia eatery has signs reading "This Is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH."

"We have nothing against immigrants," Vento said. "We just want them to be legal." Associated Press, 6-4-07.

As the details of the Kennedy-Kyl (K-K) amnesty/guest worker bill unfold, it is becoming apparent that the globalists' plan for the economic integration of North America is not just a figment of the imagination of conspiracy believers, or an "urban legend" as one newspaper called it, or even just a pipe dream of far-out world federalists. The K-K bill will accomplish economic integration by legalizing 20 million aliens immediately and inviting tens of millions more (relatives of the amnestied plus guest workers) to enter legally in the coming years.
