Phyllis Schlafly comments on Huckabee's lack of conservatism

Phyllis Schlafly, president of the national Eagle Forum, is even more blunt. "He [Huckabee] destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party a shambles," she says. "Yet some of the same evangelicals who sold us on George W. Bush as a 'compassionate conservative' are now trying to sell us on Mike Huckabee."

Read the entire OpinionJournal.com article Another Man from Hope by John Fund (10-26-07).

Phyllis Schlafly's quote made headlines on drudgereport.com today.

  • I appreciate you bringing attention to Huckabee and his destroying the Republican party in Arkansas. In addition, he campaigned ardently for the repeal of sales tax on food. Almost immediately after being elected, he decided he would like to be the spender that money, and then, forever, was silent about the repeal. He was/is a most self serving politician.

Fortunately, we are not going to elect someone from this small state as president for a long time.

  • I was so happy Huckabee was rising in the field of candidates, but I respect Mrs Schlafly's opinion enough to know he probably is yet another pipe dream.
I was so angry with Bush1 for leaving us with no viable candidate after his Presidency, now here's Bush2 doing the same thing, & since when are illegal aliens the people our President has sworn to defend? Thompson seemed like the ideal candidate until his silly little teasing game before getting into the race made me sick. I really don't care for Guiliani but am torn because the Guv I love, Bob Ehrlich is working for his campaign. Duncan Hunter & Tom Tancredo are strong favorites, but seem to not be able to get any air time. This is not a time for a pseudo conservative. American cannot afford another Clinton Presidency. Thanks for the heads up on Huckabee.

  • Mrs. Schlafly, thank you for your years of trailblazing service to the conservative cause. Governor Huckabee is the true conservative who is really catching fire among grassroots voters. Of course no one agrees with another person on every issue, but when we do our homework we find that Governor Huckabee is the one candidate we can support with all our hearts! We invite anyone who has questions to check his website, www.mikehuckabee.com

  • Then who do we vote for?

By Anonymous Anonymous, At 6:23 PM

  • I respect your opinion and your right to voice it. However, Mike Huckabee is the ONLY candidate that truly shares my values and my strongly held personal faith.
No one is perfect. But after careful study, Gov. Huckabee is the only one I could vote for in this important and difficult time for our nation.
Gov. Huckabee has my full support and I urge everyone to do your own research. Visit his website at www.mikehuckabee.com to begin.
He's also making major appearances this week on O'Rielly, Hannity & Cohlms, Fox & Friends, ABC morning etc. His full schedule is listed on the site. Thank you.

  • Whilst I respect Mrs Schlafly for decades of tireless work in the conservative movement, I really cannot understand her militant stance against Mike Huckabee. She has labelled him as a 'liberal' in all but two major policy areas, which seems to be in stark contrast to reality. Social conservatives at the Values Voter conference sent the clearest possible message to the GOP that Mike is their candidate of choice. He is (despite what the folks at the Club for Growth have been generously bribed to say) also extremely fiscally conservative, cutting taxes 91 times whilst govenor of Arkansas. In every sense he is the most conservative candidate in the field.

  • A vote for Huckabee is a vote for Hillary. There really isn't a lot of difference between them. Don't devide the party vote for the only true republican. Ron Paul.

  • Dear Mrs Schlafly, I appreciate your efforts for the family and for your opinion regarding Gov Huckabee. I would however respectfully disagree with you. Based on my investigation of the Governor I have found him to be a fine individual. Not a perfect man mind you, but a good man. I find him to be pro-life, pro-family and has a good chance of winning it all. I encourage others to learn more about the Gov @ www.mikehuckabee.com God Bless!

  • That's great Phyllis, go ahead and attack an articulate, clear thinking, gutsy, innovative and solidly EVANGELICAL Candidate! And who do you suggest we vote for???
Giuliani? Yeah right, Thompson? Are you kidding me? Romney? Never!
McCain? I don't think so... So come on Phyllis who? What positive alternative can you offer, or do you just like to throw rocks?
Mike Huckabee lowered taxes many times during his tenure. Check the record, a lot of the "tax hikes" were voter (yes the citizens
of Arkansas Phyllis) mandates that passed by a wide margin. Mike Huckabee was Governor for TEN years and, OMIGOSH Phyllis, that took an awful lot of backing from, Gulp!, Arkansas REPUBLICANS.
I say Go Mike. It's nice to have a candidate that we can be excited about!

  • Thank you for publishing my comments... and I would like to hear about the candidate that is impressing your organization.

By Anonymous Michael Patterson, At 1:30 PM

  • As many have posted on this site, I also share Mrs. Schlafly's long and distinguished service to the conservative movement. Huckabee may not be everything that I have ever wanted in a candidate... but who else? I understand you like Tancredo and Hunter. So do I. I also like Rick Santorum, Michael Steele, and Sam Brownback. All five of those men have a nearly equal chance of being President in 2009. Who then? The other 4 are non-starters... at least Huckabee shares our worldview.

Also, do people in the Arkansas GOP think he damaged the state GOP? Have the party leaders been asked how they feel?

By Anonymous Anonymous, At 9:57 PM

  • Mrs. Schlafly,

I say good job in nailing Huckabee good.

Now, if you really want to effectively end any realistic hope of the Huckster winning the nomination, then you really have to start nailing him on his immigration/open borders hypocrisy and nail him good.

Right now, Huckabee is trying to sell himself as being "tough" on illegal immigration and border control. But his record while he was Governor of Arkansas is totally opposite of his current rhetoric. He was very much pro amnesty, pro illegal alien and pro open borders while Governor.

Below are some links and quotes from the Huckster while he was Governor concerning illegal immigration.

Huckabee promotes 'open door' policy at LULAC convention

"Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority," Huckabee said jokingly as the crowd roared in laughter.

    -Also, from this article-

During the legislation session, Huckabee criticized an immigration bill by Republican senators Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life.

Senate Bill 206, which died in the Senate, would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and also force state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally. Holt, R-Springdale, replied later to Huckabee's comments that Christian charity does not include turning a blind eye to lawbreaking.

The Republican governor, who many believe will run for president in 2008, also backed legislation that would have opened the door for illegal immigrants in Arkansas to receive college scholarships.

House Bill 1525 by Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, was approved by the House but eventually failed in the Senate. Huckabee reiterated Wednesday that he believes every child, regardless of their parent's immigration status, should have an opportunity to receive an education in the U.S.

"I ... believe that an education for every child is the most important single factor to give everyone to be their very best," he said.

Immigration bill un-Christian, anti-life, governor says

Huckabee plan would give aid to illegal aliens

Gov. Mike Huckabee is proposing extending eligibility for state-funded college scholarships to illegal aliens who graduate from Arkansas high schools — an idea that several legislators predicted will go nowhere.

    http://www.nwanews.com/story.php?paper=adg§ion=News&storyid=104629

    Huckabee 'serious' about presidency

Mr. Huckabee said he approved of virtually everything in the Monday night speech on immigration by Mr. Bush, including his National Guard and guest-worker initiatives, even though that agreement put Mr. Huckabee at odds, he said, with some fellow conservative Republicans. "I do believe some of it is driven by racism or nativism," he said of the opposition within his party to Mr. Bush's view that illegal aliens should not be deported but rather fined and eventually allowed U.S. citizenship. "It's not amnesty to make people pay for breaking the law," Mr. Huckabee said.

  • Please consider voting for Ron Paul. He is the only true Christian conservative running. He is pro-family, pro-life, wants to get rid of all the wasteful spending and the horrible foreign policy our government has. I am a "values voter" and I can see the "bigger picture". Our country is going downhill fast and he is the only one who stands up for his principles and is not corrupted by big business. Look at his voting record. Don't believe the national media. Don't blindly follow who the "Christian Right" leaders endorse. Think for yourselves! The Values Voters Debate made him look bad because the yes/no questions DID NOT give him a chance to EXPLAIN himself!!! He wants to bring about change for good through following the constitution like our founding fathers intended, not through the federal government. That is why he is against the Federal Marriage Amendment. He is against gay marriage, but feels it can better be defeated at the state level. He wants to give us our freedom. So that as Christians we can worship and evangelize as we please without intrusion from the federal government. You can't legislate morality but with FREEDOM we can do so much for Christ!! No other candidate can see the BIG PICTURE!!! Wake up Values Voters! Join the Ron Paul Revolution! He can win. The national media is not reporting on the great grassroots following he has. Look how he just broke records in one day donations on November 5th. Find out more at: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/

  • Dear "Anonymous,"
I see that you want to penalize the children of illegal immigrants.
Huckabee's plan was for these children, who, having already graduated from high school in the U.S., were to be eligible to COMPETE for scholarships with other students. This was conditioned upon them becoming citizens simultaneously.
Maybe you would prefer that these innocent children, who know nothing but life here in the U.S., be kept down so that they can grow up to mow your lawn?
Mr. Huckabee strongly supports secure borders and legal immigration. By the way "anonymous" I am very glad that your ancestors all immigrated to this country completely legally and have become perfect, productive and, I must say, very compassionate citizens.

  • I greatly respect Phyllis Schlafly, and appreciate reading her newsletter every month. She does so much for this country.

An example of what she does is dissipating illusions that people may have about a candidate - in this case, pointing out that, while Huckabee may be "conservative" in a few areas, there are many other areas in which he is NOT.

I hope that people will seriously consider Dr. Ron Paul. He seems to be the best candidate in every aspect. He is a true conservative, with a strong stand and voice on every issue.
To those who like Huckabee because of his faith, I understand Ron Paul is also a Baptist and born-again believer.

Phyllis, keep up the great work! America needs you!

  • Michael Patterson,

You speak about "compassion". Where is your "compassion", Mr. Patterson, for your fellow Americans, especially children of your Fellow Americans (if you are an American), many of whom are poor or working class?

How dare you (and your pal Huckabee) put the welfare and interests of illegal alien children ahead of American children!!!

BTW, I don't want illegals mowing my lawn (like they must be doing for you), I mow my own lawn. I want them out of this country period (and they can take you with them as far as I am concerned).

I do have compassion...for my fellow countrymen and women who are being hurt by illegal immigration and those who employ or otherwise support illegal immigration, as you do.

I also have compassion for immigrants who come here "legally".

I have no compassion for those who broke our immigration laws, no matter there reasons.

One more thing, Mr. "Patterson", I've discovered that the only folks who support illegal aliens are either the illegals themselves or those who profit from illegal immigration. Are you an illegal or do you profit from illegal immigration? You are either one or the other. Which?

  • We were leaning strongly toward Mike Huckabee, that is up until this past weekend. We had heard that Phyllis Schlafly had withheld her endorsement of him. "Why?", we wondered. We decided to look further into Mike Huckabee's record in Arkansas and was alarmed at what we discovered. In sum, there were too many similarities in the actions, programs, patterns and language of Mike H. and G.W. Bush. We know it cannot be all coincidence. However, we remained cautiously silent..... until just yesterday when Jerome Corsi's article confirmed our concerns. You see, we loved, voted twice and worked hard for Pres. Bush. Because of his label "Christian", we naively trusted without reservation. We have learned an invaluable lesson about how deception works, especially after last June's 'amnesty bill' that was nearly forced on America's citizens in spite of their overwhelming opposition. We feel that we now understand the driving force behind 'compassionate conservatism'. But even this effort to reward illegal immigrants with full citizenship, tax amnesty and free social services; or to begin covert planning of the NAFTA superhighway through our heartland; or to leave our borders open and America's citizens vulnerable to a myriad of criminal and terrorist elements while imprisoning our Border Patrol agents for doing their job; or to conspire behind closed door meetings with Mexico's Vicente Fox and Canada's leader, and on and on.....ALL this is but childplay compared to what is about to occur on Nov. 27th at the Middle East Summit in Annapolis, MD, when Israel will be pressured to give away their Temple Mount, the holiest site in all Judaism, to their avowed enemy...and in the name of peace! May God helps us.

"There is a special judgment of God reserved for those nations who 'divided up my land.' Regardless of the good intentions of the Bush administration in convening the Annapolis summit, our nation stands in peril if we impose any 'land for peace' solutions on Israel, including a division of Jerusalem. Let it not be said that we did nothing. Now is the time for all who love Israel and the covenant promises God has made, to let their voice be heard. 'For Zion's sake we will not keep silent.'(Isaiah 62)- quote from Olive Tree Ministries

There is one specific candidate who does appear to hold those qualities worthy of this office of President of the United States of America. He is a patriot and statesman with an untarnished record. He doesn't wear his Christianity on his sleeve, but lives it out quietly. He has the experience, service, professionalism and proven record to qualify him to lead and protect this country. He also has the God-given wisdom to understand that we must stand side by side with Israel... no matter what. The ONLY argument ever offered against this Gentleman is this... and this alone: "He doesn't have a chance to win!" Personally, we were excluding him from our Republican candidate selection because of this type of faithless, narrow-minded thinking. I would encourage any who have also adopted this same defeated 'stinking thinking' to look into what just happened in the mayoral and city council elections in Indianapolis, IN. A miracle occurred!! The Revolutionary War was won with just 10% of Americans becoming actively engaged. With God, one man alone is a MAJORITY!! We now believe that the man for a time such as this could well be DUNCAN HUNTER.

That said, let us look to our Lord for HIS will and seriously consider the one and only solution to our nation's desperate plight. The problem is far greater than any solution offered by a single man, administration, or any political party. It is spelled out for us in II Chronicles 7:14. Please, for our children and their children's sake, let us humble ourselves and acknowledge that as a nation, we have offended God and we do deserve judgement. Let us turn away from what we have become and pray, fervently, for God's will to be done, before it is too late.
Following is a copy of a speech that declares what will be if we don't:
    Verified on Snopes as TRUE:
    http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/lamm.asp

We know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an immigration
overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of America's finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor by the name of Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia,"
explaining how immigration - both legal and illegal was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream.

Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said,
"If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that 'An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.'"

"Here is how they do it, " Lamm said: "First, to destroy America, turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country." History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The
historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way: "The histories of
bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy." Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence.
Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans.".

Lamm went on: Second, to destroy America, "Invent 'multiculturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. Make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences.

Make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due solely to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds.

Third, "We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: "The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentricity and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together."

Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups
living in America enforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."

"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least
educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school."

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all
minorities to think that their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."

"My sixth plan for America 's downfall would include dual citizenship, and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would
stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical
precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshipped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A
common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. "E. Pluribus Unum"
—From many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'pluribus' instead of the 'Unum, ' we will balkanize America as surely as Kosovo."

"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits; make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the
16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe ' halt discussion and debate.

Having made America a bilingual/bicultural country, having established multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them."

In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound silence followed. Finally he said, "Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis's book "Mexifornia." His book is angerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book."

There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly,
yet pervasively across the United States today. Discussion is being
suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Even barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate 'diversity.' American
jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America - take note of California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell's book
"1984". In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building:
"War is Peace", "Freedom is Slavery" and "Ignorance is Strength."

Governor Lamm walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the
conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy is deeply in trouble and worsening fast. If we don't get this immigration monster stopped within three years, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything in it's path... especially The American Dream.

If you care for and love our country as I do, take the time to pass this on just as I did for you.

Peace through faith in Christ alone.

While I'm closely surveying the Republican field now, leaning toward Sen Thompson, I am impressed with Governor Huckabee, but need more information. The test of time will make things more clear.

It is interesting that Governor Huckabee's recent immigration proposal has a plank opposing "North American integration." Since that is something I first heard of through your organization, you may be having more influence than you realize.

    Keep up the good work.

More importantly, do your own research and read about Huckabee's record before you assume he "shares your same values" and before you accept his message wholesale. Test the spirits. I am a conservative Christian and believe that Huckabee will be held accountable for doing dishonest things in God's name.

He raised taxes, freed a convicted rapist who then raped and murdered another victim, and then Huckabee lied about it. He was fined by the Ethics Commission more than Bill Clinton.

After 120 years of Democratic leadership, Arkansas turned against Democrats because of Bill Clinton's shenanigans. For about 3 or 4 years, Republicans had a majority for the first time in state history. Huckabee destroyed that by his actions, his lack of morality, his lying and his own arrogance in thinking the state, the Republican party and all other elected officials were there to serve him, instead of vice versa.

You should take a closer look at his record. He's used being a Baptist preacher, he's used other people, and he'll use you if you vote for him for president. But if you do vote for him, keep this message because it will serve as a reminder for those who wouldn't listen and who claim "no one ever told me." If you vote for Huckabee, you'll feel like the people who voted for Clinton and later wondered why, with no excuse because we all had fair warning. Mike Huckabee's actions are our fair warning.

(part of which reads: "The ethics commission fined Huckabee $1,000 for failing to report that he paid himself $14,000 from his 1992 U.S. Senate campaign and $43,000 from his 1994 lieutenant governor's campaign. The latter payment — for the use of his eight-seat, twin-engine plane — was reported in a cryptic way that didn’t identify Huckabee and his wife as the owners of the plane. The commission found Huckabee unintentionally failed to disclose $23,500 he received from a nonprofit organization set up to handle his speaking engagements and supplement his income before he became governor. Allegations by a former governor’s mansion employee in 1998 became part of the basis for a lawsuit against Huckabee over his family’s use of a $60,000-a-year fund. The lawsuit also dealt with Huckabee’s assertion that $70,000 worth of furniture donated to the governor's mansion was his to keep. The fund had been used to pay for pizza, a doghouse, a magazine subscription and pantyhose for Huckabee’s wife, Janet, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.")

  • In spite of what you think about Mike Huckabee, I believe it is time for conservative voters to vote what they believe. Courageous conservatives KNOW that all politicians need to be accountable for what they do and if we as voters continue to vote (and accept) their liberal stances on issues we will keep getting the same back from them. Zig Zigler says it best, "If you keep doing what your doing, your going to keep getting what your getting." It is time to vote what you believe, inspite of the consequences. That may mean Duncan Hunter, Ron Paul or whoever, but we have got to vote our consciences. Politicians have got to be accountable to the people and the people, are accountable to GOD. Thats the way our this Constitutional Republic works, or should work. If it works that way or not it is truly up to us, for We Are The People.

  • Thank you for stating what you think of Mike Huckabee. But I must politely disagree with you, Mike Huckabee is a true conservative. I know that you do not think Romney, Giuliani, or McCain are conservatives. Do you think that Ron Paul, who has stated he does not see where in the Bible it says homosexuality is wrong? It is obvious in Leviticus what the Lord thinks of homosexuality; or do you support Fred Thompson who was married at 17 because he got his girlfriend pregnant, then later divorced her, and married again. Thompson also lobbied for Planned Parenthood at one point?

  • "I'm from Arkansas, and supported, worked for, and served on Huck's transition team when he assumed the governor's chair. I was actually there at the capitol when former Gov Tucker refused to leave, and Huck went on TV to tell him that either he left or they would impeach him. I went to Huck's dedication service and all the festivities that night. HOWEVER, it was only a matter of months before I (and many, many of my friends who had also supported him) found out how he was betraying the Republicans and conservatives in Arkansas. • Why Evangelicals Need to Stop Huckabee

By Guest: James Atticus Bowden on Jan 12, 08

If Mike Huckabee gets the Republican nomination for President of the United States, Evangelicals lose. America loses with Barack Hussein Obama or HRH Hillary I when either beat Huckabee, but Evangelical American Christians lose more. Even if Huckabee won the election, he would be another Jimmy Carter in office - and, again, Evangelical American Christians would lose the most. Evangelicals, especially Southerners, and Conservatives of every stripe must stop Huckabee now. Why am I, an Evangelical and a Southern Baptist Sunday School teacher, saying this about a former Southern Baptist preacher?

Because the politics of identity lose to the politics of great ideas.

American pluralism is united with transcendent, ascendant, dynamic, optimistic, ideas that work, succeed, and triumph for the American people. Identity politics, which may work regionally, fail nationally because there is no unifying identity with a strong majority – other than the simple but magnificent identity of ‘American.’ A Christian identity candidate can’t win on that identity alone, especially when the Democrat candidates will profess Christianity with equal fervor.

To the point, and the person of Huckabee, he will do damage to the Great Experiment, our democracy in America, because he isn’t a consistent, conscientious, committed Conservative. He is a big government, Nanny State, tax and spend politician – who supports amnesty for illegal immigrants. Huckabee could be right, sometimes, for Social Conservatives. But, he is wrong and weak as a Defense Conservative. He fundamentally doesn’t understand the nature of the World War we are fighting or the global context of international affairs. If he governs like he did as governor in Arkansas, he is not a Fiscal Conservative. All good reasons not to make Huckabee the Republican standard bearer.

Evangelicals need to be concerned about the damage he will do to the Great Commission. If Huckabee is the Christian identity candidate then everything that goes wrong, every foible or failure of his, and every unimaginable consequence that befalls the U.S. during his presidency will be attributed by the nominally Christian, culturally Christian, Liberal Left Christian, non-and anti-Christian Americans (about 55% of the U.S.) to Christianity. That won’t help Evangelicals build the Christian witness and discipleship of the nominally Christian or convert by faith the culturally Christian. It’ll hurt Evangelicals when they engage the Liberal “Sissy” Christians and anti-Christians in the U.S. Culture War.

Politics is about compromise. Christian faith is about purity. Politics allows accommodations and exceptions, especially in foreign affairs, to defend the Nation. Christianity can’t divert from the truth, the light, the way of Jesus. Yet, a Christian identity President Mike Huckabee will be just a man bewildered on the world stage – when he must make compromises and take actions that many will not call ‘Christian’. That is if Huckabee got elected.

Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Al Gore and David Huckabee sought office as Southerners and Southern Baptists. The MSM mocked Clinton’s comments about “lusting in his heart” but, otherwise promoted him as their Liberal in Christian clothing. The MSM ignored Clinton and Gore’s religious denomination because they knew that it was a fig leaf. The MSM will pounce on Huckabee as a Southern Baptist. That would be fine, if Huckabee had the intellect and courage of the Apostle Paul or Martin Luther to defend his faith in a ringing exposition of the Gospel. More likely, Huckabee will equivocate and abdicate. The Good News and great Christian faith denomination will be dragged down, not uplifted.

America has a destiny. It takes a Social, Defense and Fiscal Conservative to lead the Nation to that “Munificent Destiny”. None of the Republican Presidential candidates are flawless as Conservatives. One, Fred Thompson, is more, and better, as a Conservative dedicated to the federalism of our Constitution. Ron Paul talks the game, but his isolationism and fantasy politics on taxation, define him as a fringe as Ross Perot. Huckabee can’t be trusted as a Conservative.

Huckabee is dangerously wrong on the global warming hoax that humans are at fault. He is equally clueless on how to deal with Islamists who will kill us all and Islamic countries which naturally produce the Islamists. Huckabee’s courting amnesty for illegal aliens threatens American sovereignty and our rule of law.

What are the three reasons to elect Mike Huckabee? Because he is an Evangelical Christian x 3? Not good enough. Better to have an Evangelical Christian run with three big Conservative ideas to win – for America. Failing that, have an informed Christian run for President with three big Conservative issues.

South Carolina, my cousins (literally), do your duty.

  • With all due respect because I agree with Ms. Schlafly on most issues; however, I TOTALLY disagree with her on Governor Mike Huckabee. I have a LOT of Republican relatives that live in Arkansas (including Pastors) and they all LOVE Mike Hucakbee and will be voting for him to be President. I watched the Value Voters Debate live and Mike Huckabee won by a landslide by the people in attendance. He has the endorsement of many well respected Christian leaders and we will definitely be voting for Mike Huckabee.

  • Anybody that believes that Huckabee cut taxes in Arkansas is not from Arkansas. Taxes were a lot higher when he left than when he took office. He was also a proponet of socialized health care for children. He is not a conservative. He is also #6 on Judicial watches top ten most wanted corrupt politicians.
Some people just want to be lied to.
