How Much Is That Degree Really Worth?

Do you know any young people with college degrees working in restaurants, retail stores, or somewhere else for which their degree is worthless? Do they owe tens of thousands of dollars in student loans? There are lots of them out there. Perhaps they are reevaluating the worth of a college education. I’m not talking about people who want to be engineers, nurses, biologists, or something else in the hard sciences. I’m talking about some of the so-called “soft sciences” like Women’s Studies or Art History, or some other useless course of study. Only people with huge trust funds should pursue these majors. • Exactly. I got honors almost every semester of my life. I was in gifted education. I graduated with high honors with a B.A. in history and then got a M.A. in Political Science. I was a T.A. and had a full ride teaching assistantship. I wish I got a M.B.A. instead. I work as a secretary for a state government and earn twenty-something thousand dollars. I owe 60,000 in student loans. I had to move back in with my parents. However, all I hear is that I'm not qualified for jobs. I'm not sure what exactly "they" want. I give a very polished impression, I'm beautiful, I'm skinny, I'm smart. I can't get a job. I guess I have no marketable skills. I keep hearing "no."
