Statement by Anne Cori, Chairman of Eagle Forum

February 19, 2018

In April 2016, the Majority Board members of Eagle Forum were forced to file suit to protect the assets of Eagle Forum, protect the name and reputation of Eagle Forum, and to be able to continue our vital work without interference from interlopers who sought to destroy Eagle Forum. Thanks to multiple favorable legal decisions and court orders in multiple jurisdictions, Eagle Forum is now able to operate as we have for 45 years. Eagle Forum is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, all of whom have spent decades working side-by-side with our founder, Phyllis Schlafly. The President of Eagle Forum is Eunie Smith, who served as Vice-President for many years and is President of Alabama Eagle Forum.

In Oct 2016, Illinois state Judge John Barbaris ruled that the Board of Directors of Eagle Forum has full control over Eagle Forum. In Oct 2017, Federal Judge David Herndon ruled that EagleĀ Forum has the right to use the name, image, and likeness of Phyllis Schlafly. Other cases that were filed against Eagle Forum have been either stayed or dismissed. In one action, U.S. District Judge John Ross has identified “a pattern of litigation harassment” by certain individuals against Eagle Forum. The U.S. Postal System has blocked the interlopers’ attempt to block Eagle Forum from obtaining access to its own mail addressed to Eagle Forum. Eagle Forum is still litigating a challenge in New Jersey to secure our insurance proceeds, but the insurance case clearly favors Eagle Forum since Eagle Forum is the named beneficiary and paid all the premiums on the policy in question. Eagle Forum owns an incontestable trademark over the name “Eagle Forum.”

Unfortunately, several prior members of the Eagle Forum board hatched a plan, and even obtained legal counsel who outlined in a memo, to destroy Eagle Forum. They failed.

Eagle Forum is the one true volunteer membership citizen-lobbyist organization founded by Phyllis Schlafly; there is no other. Eagle Forum continues our tradition of effectively impacting conservative, pro-family, and pro-America policies at the local, state, and federal levels. Eagle Forum lobbies on Capitol Hill, sends weekly email alerts, mails monthly Eagle Forum Report, and supports a network of volunteer state leaders and chapter leaders across the country.
